Joel Fuhrman, M.D. is a board-certified family physician, seven-time New York Times best-selling author and internationally recognized expert on nutrition and natural healing. He specializes in preventing and reversing disease through nutritional methods. Dr. Fuhrman is the President of the Nutritional Research Foundation and on the faculty of Northern Arizona University, Health Sciences division. He coined the term “Nutritarian” to describe a nutrient-dense eating style, designed to prevent cancer, slow aging, and extend lifespan.
For over 30 years, Dr. Fuhrman has shown that it is possible to achieve sustainable weight loss and reverse heart disease, diabetes and many other illnesses using smart nutrition. In his medical practice, and through his books and television specials, he continues to bring this life-saving message to hundreds of thousands of people around the world.
Dr. Fuhrman is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania (Perelman) School of Medicine (1988) and has received the St. Joseph’s Family Practice Resident’s Teaching Award for his contribution to the education of family practice residents; and a C3 Cardiology Global Health Award for teaching nutritional science to cardiologists.
Dr. Fuhrman operates the Eat To Live Retreat in San Diego. At this residential facility, people from all over the world come to stay for 4-12 weeks to recover from conditions ranging from cardiovascular disease to autoimmune disease, food addiction and more. They also gain the skills and knowledge to make these changes permanent when they leave the retreat.
Dr. Fuhrman is the author of seven New York Times bestsellers, including his most recent book, Eat for Life (HarperOne, 2020). EPISODE 7: The truth about Cancer with Dr Andre Amorim
In Episode 7 of the Green Life I have a guest I know, trust and can totally vouch for , as he is my own integrative Physician. Dr Andre Amorim is a classically trained MD who breached the gap between allopathic and natural medicine. In this episode we discuss the scary C word: Cancer! The truth about Cancer is that it is NOT a death sentence; but we need to know what to do and take responsibility or our health, to only in the face of a diagnosis, rather in a preventive manner.
Since his early years, Dr. Amorim has been an enthusiastic proponent for a more natural approach to health and life. EPISODE 8: Changing the future through education with Ivone Apolinario
In this episode, I speak to a true community leader ! Ivone Apolonario is not an online community celebrity but a grass root, local leader who has taken it upon herself to change the future of her country with a simple step: by educating children in a different way! Ivone Apoilinario is the co-founder of O Mundo Somo Nos, an alternative educational system in Northen Portugal, to inspire the next generation and their parents to be themselves and do better for the whole community and eventually the world.
Ivone is also the current coordinator of the Learning Center of the association O MUNDO SOMOS NÓS as well as president of the association's board. Despite her degree in International Relations, and having studied Management, she has a growing interest in adult and children education that led her to study several areas such as Natural Medicine (Macrobiotics and Zen-Shiatsu), Yoga, Humanized Childbirth and Pre-Education. She works for the school to create educational material related to food, health, natural lifestyle and parenting to support the parents as well as the children enrolled in the school. She committed herself to researching various educational approaches, including those of J. Krishnamurti, the main inspiration at the heart of the project, attending various training courses and visiting schools in England, Spain and Portugal. Zoë Lind van't Hof / FOUNDER
Zoe learned about health and nutrition from her late mother, who had been in the wellbeing industry for over 40 years. This meant she grew up plant-based, surrounded by botanicals, developing her own intuitive herbalism, foraging and growing organic food was the daily norm. This knowledge and motivation has led her to start up her own business.
Having travelled with her late mother to Sri Lanka to experience and learn more about Ayurveda, Zoe learned about turmeric and its benefits. A couple of years after finishing her Masters degree in International Relations with a thesis on Climate Change, she went back to Sri Lanka to establish a partnership with the suppliers of our most crucial ingredient, Turmeric, and begin her journey to starting Wunder Workshop.

She discovered the power of food as medicine, drastically overhauled her diet, and lo and behold, her skin completely cleared up in a matter of months.
She vowed to share this important information, left a career in finance to study cooking and nutrition, and became a holistic nutritionist.
That’s how she came to be known as the Acne Nutritionist, and why she created Glow by Marlowe.

EPISODE 12: THE FUTURE OF NUTRITION WITH DR T . COLIN CAMPBELL
In episode 12 of The Green Life , I have the privileged to discuss the future of nutrition with the father of Modern Day Plant Based Nutrition, Dr T Colin Campbell. Based on his latest book by the same title, we discuss how oversimplifying nutrients has caused confusion, the negative impact of private financial incentives on food policies and more!
T. Colin Campbell, PhD has been dedicated to the science of human health for more than 60 years. His primary focus is on the association between diet and disease, particularly cancer. Although largely known for the China Study–one of the most comprehensive studies of health and nutrition ever conducted, and recognized by The New York Times as the “Grand Prix of epidemiology”–Dr. Campbell’s profound impact also includes extensive involvement in education, public policy, and laboratory research.
Dr. Campbell grew up on a dairy farm and was the first in his family to go to college, where he studied pre-veterinary medicine at Pennsylvania State University. After obtaining his bachelor’s degree, and while completing his first year at the University of Georgia veterinary school, he received a telegram from a well known professor at Cornell University, offering a scholarship and research opportunity too good to turn down. And so he completed his education at Cornell University (M.S., Ph.D.) and MIT (Research Associate) in nutrition, biochemistry and toxicology. He then spent 10 years on the faculty of Virginia Tech’s Department of Biochemistry and Nutrition before returning to Cornell in 1975 where he presently holds his Endowed Chair as the Jacob Gould Schurman Professor Emeritus of Nutritional Biochemistry in the Division of Nutritional Sciences.
Dr. Campbell’s research experience includes both laboratory experiments and large-scale human studies. He has received over 70 grant-years of peer-reviewed research funding (mostly with NIH), served on grant review panels of multiple funding agencies, actively participated in the development of national and international nutrition policy, and authored over 350 research papers, most published in peer-reviewed science journals. Throughout his career, he has confronted a great deal of confusion surrounding nutrition and its effects. It is precisely this confusion that he has focused so much on, in recent years.
In order to synthesize the findings of his long and rewarding career, and to give back to the public whose lives are threatened by rampant misinformation and special interests, Dr. Campbell co-wrote The China Study: Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss and Long-term Health (2005, 2016), which has sold more than 3 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 50 foreign languages. He is also the author of the The New York Times bestseller Whole (2013), The Low Carb Fraud (2013), and The Future of Nutrition. An Insider’s Look at the Science, Why We Keep Getting It Wrong and How to Start Getting It Right (2020). Several documentary films feature Dr. Campbell and his research, including Forks Over Knives, Eating You Alive, Food Matters, and PlantPure Nation. He continues to share evidence-based information on health and nutrition whenever given the opportunity. He has delivered hundreds of lectures around the world and he is the founder of the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies and the online Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate in partnership with eCornell.

EPISODE 13: Reversing heart disease with Dr Esselstyn
In this episode I am honoured to be joined by Dr Caldwell Esselstyn Jr MD, a veteran in heart health! We discuss cardiovascular disease and health, and the only way he has seen being healed in his career: low fat whole food plant based diet! His findings might surprise you as he shares that both olive oil and coffee are deterrent to heart health, that heart disease is not genetic and that we start pretty early in life o our path to CVD and we can change that; it is in or power!
Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr., received his B.A. from Yale University and his M.D. from Western Reserve University. In 1956, pulling the No. 6 oar as a member of the victorious United States rowing team, he was awarded a gold medal at the Olympic Games. He was trained as a surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic and at St. George’s Hospital in London. In 1968, as an Army surgeon in Vietnam, he was awarded the Bronze Star.
Dr. Esselstyn has been associated with the Cleveland Clinic since 1968. During that time, he has served as President of the Staff and as a member of the Board of Governors. He chaired the Clinic’s Breast Cancer Task Force and headed its Section of Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
In 1991, Dr. Esselstyn served as President of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, That same year he organized the first National Conference on the Elimination of Coronary Artery Disease, which was held in Tucson, Arizona. In 1997, he chaired a follow-up conference, the Summit on Cholesterol and Coronary Disease, which brought together more than 500 physicians and health-care workers in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. In April, 2005, Dr. Esselstyn became the first recipient of the Benjamin Spock Award for Compassion in Medicine. He received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Cleveland Clinic Alumni Association in 2009. In September 2010, he received the Greater Cleveland Sports Hall of Fame Award. Dr. Esselstyn received the 2013 Deerfield Academy Alumni Association Heritage Award In Recognition of Outstanding Achievement & Service, and the 2013 Yale University George H.W. Bush ’48 Lifetime of Leadership Award. Dr. Esselstyn has also received the 2015 Plantrician Project Luminary Award, the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine 2016 Distinguished Alumni Award, and the American College of Lifestyle Medicine 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award.
His scientific publications number over 150, “The Best Doctors in America” 1994-1995 published by Woodward and White cites Dr. Esselstyn’s surgical expertise in the categories of endocrine and breast disease. In 1995 he published his bench mark long-term nutritional research arresting and reversing coronary artery disease in severely ill patients. That same study was updated at 12 years and reviewed beyond twenty years in his book, Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease, making it one of the longest longitudinal studies of its type. In July of 2014 he reported the experience of 198 participants seriously ill with cardiovascular disease. During 3.7 years of follow up of the 89% adherent to the program, 99.4% avoided further major cardiac events.
Dr. Esselstyn and his wife, Ann Crile Esselstyn, have followed a plant-based diet since 1984. Dr. Esselstyn presently directs the cardiovascular prevention and reversal program at The Cleveland Clinic Wellness Institute.
The Esselstyns have four children and ten grandchildren.
